Most pet retail stores run 9:00 AM through 9:00 PM Monday through Saturday and 10:00 AM through 7:00 PM Sunday at the majority of stores. In-store services run shorter hours than the main retail store: grooming salons typically 8:00 AM through 5:00 PM (appointment recommended), veterinary clinics inside PetSmart (Banfield Pet Hospital partnership) typically 7:00 AM through 7:00 PM Monday through Friday with shorter weekend hours, training classes typically scheduled evenings and weekends.

Christmas Day is closed chain-wide at PetSmart and Petco. Thanksgiving Day is typically closed. Other federal holidays run reduced hours at most stores. The week before Christmas is one of the busier sales periods (pet-themed gifts and stocking-stuffers).

Both chains operate loyalty programs (PetSmart Treats, Petco Pals Rewards) with points-on-purchase and exclusive member pricing. Beyond retail, most stores accept curbside pickup, online order pickup, and same-day delivery through DoorDash or Instacart partnerships.
