Big-box and membership warehouse store hours. This category covers Walmart, Target, Costco, Sam’s Club, and BJ’s Wholesale Club, the five largest open-to-the-public big-box and membership-warehouse retailers in the US.

Most big-box stores run 6:00 AM or 7:00 AM through 10:00 PM or 11:00 PM. Walmart shifted away from 24-hour operations in 2020 and now runs 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM at most US stores. Membership warehouse clubs run shorter hours: Costco typically 10:00 AM to 8:30 PM Monday through Friday with reduced 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM weekends, similar pattern at Sam’s Club and BJ’s.

Holiday calendars differ sharply by format. Walmart and Target close Christmas Day and Thanksgiving Day chain-wide. Costco’s holiday calendar is the most restrictive of any major US retailer: closed Christmas Day, Thanksgiving, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, and New Year’s Day. Sam’s Club and BJ’s follow similar but slightly less restrictive holiday closures.
